Jasper Tilden opened the CLAM SHACK in 1948 and sold Fried Maine Clam Dinners for $2.00 from a take-out window. Business was brisk, and before long people were parked all around the Shack, eating Jasper's Fried Clams right in their cars. In 1949 Jasper and a partner built the Brookside Restaurant and busloads of people from Down East and Bangor came for the great food.  Eight years later, Jasper bought a small restaurant and motel right across High Street, where JASPER'S stands today. In 1978, Jasper's daughter Nancy took over the restaurant, keeping up the reputation as the King of Seafood. Then in 2001, Nancy's son and Jasper's grandson Troy A. H. Adams purchased the restaurant, keeping the restaurant in the family for three generations.

Jasper's menu reflects the health-conscious way people dine today, while still serving honest-to-goodness food.  Fried Clams are still an all time favorite, with Haddock entrees and "Lobster Served 10 Ways" not far behind. Open year-round, on High Street in Ellsworth, the family hopes you'll come visit often.
